Delhi University Colleges Face Financial Crunch after No Funds From Delhi Govt.

Around 12 government Delhi University are facing a financial crunch after no funds from the University of Delhi. Over 2,700 teaching and non-teaching staff may not get salaries from this month.

12 Delhi University Colleges which are fully funded by the Delhi government are facing a financial crunch. Due to which it is getting difficult for these colleges to pay salaries and develop the infrastructure.

The issue of the formation of governing bodies has led to the disagreement between the Delhi government and the city government. Both the parties have been accusing each other regarding the delay in the process.

Anurag Mishra, Professor Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College said that the salaries of both teaching and non-teaching staff have been delayed and the funds are exhausted. He further said that due to the introduction of EWS category there will be an increase in the number of students, but there are no funds for infrastructure development. To expand and upgrade the existing infrastructure there are no funds.

Last year an official of the Delhi government was quoted saying that the authorities are considering to reject fund grants to the DU colleges quite seriously. He further added that the prime reason behind considering the same is that the University is not letting it form and constitute governing bodies within these colleges.

Earlier in the month of June, the Delhi government had officially asked Delhi University to work towards speeding up the process for the notification for the governing body. It had urged the University to begin appointing new staff members in the colleges once the new governing body is formed.

DU colleges like Acharya Narendra Dev College, Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Maharaja Agrasen College receive 100% grants from the Delhi government. On the other hand, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC), Gargi College, Shivaji College, Sri Aurobindo College, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Motilal Nehru College, Rajdhani College are among those that receive 95% funds from UGC and 5% from the Delhi government. To keep the infrastructural facilities in all government funded universities in place, New Delhi CM Manish Sisodia said that VCs of Delhi Government-Funded Universities can Sanction Works Costing Rs. 5 Crore.
