Local Entrepreneurs to Provide Entrepreneurship Advice to Delhi School Students
School students in Delhi will be provided with a unique opportunity to meet and learn from the local entrepreneurs of Delhi. The Delhi Government’s Entrepreneurship Curriculum that had been released this year and is aimed at providing the students with the spirit of entrepreneurship.
In a bid to create more entrepreneurs, the Delhi Government has started an initiative where local entrepreneurs and businessmen from the Union Territory of Delhi are able to share their experiences and knowledge that they have gained with the school-going students.
The Department of Education of the Government of Delhi has launched an entrepreneurship curriculum this year, where they will be holding “special classes” for the purpose of cultivating an idea and spirit of entrepreneurship in the young minds of the children. One part of the entrepreneurship curriculum includes the students meeting with the local entrepreneurs of Delhi who have had a successful business story to share. With the help of this section of the curriculum, the students will have the opportunity to learn what it really takes to be an entrepreneur.
The Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia spoke with the media and stated that the reason as to why they chose local entrepreneurs over the big names in the industry was to allow the students to be able to connect with the issues and situations that they are familiar with. He stated that bringing in someone like Narayan Murthy while being a great motivational opportunity, will be looked upon by the children as an “unbeatable target”. He further added that bringing in someone from their own localities will allow the students to relate with the entrepreneurs and their stories.

For this purpose, the Government of Delhi had invited applications last week, from different entrepreneurs across the territory to perform the role of a resource pool for the students. As of now, the Government has received around 2,200 applications from the entrepreneurs in Delhi. Manish Sisodia states that the current need for entrepreneurs to act as resources persons as part of the curriculum is around 7,000 resource people. It will be easier to conduct the interactions in all the schools of Delhi.

The curriculum started in all the classes soon after the summer vacations got over. As part of the curriculum, for 40 minutes each day, the students will be provided knowledge on entrepreneurship. Sources state that the students will also receive a seed funding of ₹1,000 each for the projects that get selected.
