Delhi: Govt. Seeks CAG Audit of 28 DU Colleges
- According to Manish Sisodia, lack of governing body to monitor the financial activities of the colleges might have resulted in corruption.
- Comptroller and Auditor General will audit the expenditure made by the colleges during the financial year 2016-17 and 2017-18.
Mr. Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi has written to CAG or Comptroller and Auditor General seeking an audit of 28 colleges of Delhi University which are fully/partially funded by the government of Delhi. The government received many complaints of corruption against these colleges following which it stopped the funding to 28 DU colleges as they failed to constitute governing bodies. According to Manish Sisodia, lack of a governing body to monitor the financial activities of the colleges might have resulted in corruption. Therefore, the government sought a comprehensive audit of 28 colleges for the current and previous financial years.

Now, Comptroller and Auditor General will audit the expenditure made by the colleges during the financial year 2016-17 and 2017-18. CAG will also audit the procedure of ad-hoc and regular appointments as well as administrative action taken by the University of Delhi with respect to these colleges. Mr. Manish Sisodia also indicated that there were irregularities with regard to the appointments of government funded colleges.
On the other hand, teachers’ union has written a letter to the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University urging him to form a Governing Body in 28 colleges as early as possible. The letter also indicated that students would suffer due to the freeze of funds.

According to sources, the varsity is expected to complete the formation of governing bodies by August 7 or 8, 2017. The Executive Council of Delhi University raised few objections over the nomination for governing bodies. The final decision will be out by August 7 or 8, 2017. Usually, the government of Delhi nominates five members out of 15 for the Governing Body.
