The High Court of Delhi has stated that there may be some effect on the ongoing DU Admissions 2017 as a large number of CBSE students have applied for re-evaluation of answer sheets of Class 12 board examinations. The merit position of the students may be changed following the revised marks obtained by candidates after re-evaluation.

A bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar stated these facts to caution the students who are at present seeking admission in the most prestigious University of the country i.e. Delhi University. As the petition case hearing is in the process, the possibility of changes in merit list has not been ruled out by the High Court. The court further directed DU to make aware the students regarding the same and also issue/file a status report in this regard.

M.K. Pandit who is the Chairperson of the Admissions Committee of DU stated that a student who has been granted admission and has paid the fee needn't worry as their admission won't be cancelled even if their marks lower after re-evaluation. Only those will be revoked who submit fabricated certificates for admissions.

Earlier, in the year 2014, the re-evaluation process of CBSE was deemed meaningless as no benefit was given to students who were affected by the same. They were not able to seek admission in DU colleges even after being eligible for it as per revised merit that increased their percentage by up to 2% as well. In 2010 also, DU had issued a statement that said admissions could be conducted only until the last cut-off list is announced, that is one of the provisions of the admission policy of Delhi University. Hence, the HC taking note of these judgments in the past said that their applicability shall be examined as it will affect this year's decision as well.

CBSE had been ordered to conduct re-evaluation process as per the pre-determined marking scheme for all students who have applied for the same irrespective of the limitations on the subjects and questions it follows.

Further, Delhi High Court has also issued notices to the Centre, Delhi University and Central of Secondary Education (CBSE) with respect to the plea filed. It has also asked the respective bodies to reply within 10 days. The next hearing on the matter has been scheduled for 26th July 2017.
