On June 12, 2017, the High Court of Delhi asked the BCI or Bar Council of India to examine the fresh DU plea on inducting 2,310 students to LLB course as against 1,440. The lawyer’s body has fixed the intake of 1,440 to the LLB course of Delhi University. However, Delhi University is seeking to admit 2,310 students for its LLB course.

A bench of Justices C. Hari Shankar and S. Muralidhar has informed the BCI that LEC i.e. Legal Education Committee would meet from June 17 to June 19, 2017, to consider the representation of DU independently and the report of its inspection. LEC will decide on how many students will be inducted this year. The court further revealed that the LEC would take decision uninfluenced by the Bar Council of India’s rejection of the Delhi University’s representation.

The court informed the lawyer’s body that it would communicate its decision in writing to the Dean of Law Faculty of Delhi University by June 24, 2017. The LEC will also provide a copy of the inspection report. The inspection report and decision will also be placed before the court on the next date of hearing, i.e., June 27, 2017.

Earlier, BCI informed the bench that its committee inspected all the three centres of law faculty on June 9, 2017. Based on the inspection, the committee has given a report, which would be placed before Legal Education Committee (LEC) on June 17, 2017.

On June 7, 2017, the HC told the BCI that it is mandatory to carry out the inspection if the varsity has paid the fees for it.
