Law aspirants of Delhi University are relieved after the decision of Delhi High Court regarding LLB seats in Law Faculty of DU. The court clarified that there will be no seat cuts in LLB course following which the varsity must admit 2,310 seats. Earlier, Bar Council of India imposed a cap on the number of seats. Stating various reasons, BCI reduced the intake to 1,440 seats.

A division bench of Justice Vinod Goel and Manmohan passed an interim order that allows the varsity to admit 2,310 students instead of 1,440. The court passed the order while hearing a PIL filed by lawyer Joginder Kumar Sukhija against the cap on LLB seats by Bar Council of India (BCI).

The Bench indicated that DU has been teaching 2,310 students until now, and there is nothing wrong in it. The court further mentioned that it needs time to decide the case on LLB seat cuts by BCI. The varsity can admit 2,310 students this year, the court added. It further informed BCI to give DU a chance as it has the best faculty members and other important facilities for the successful conduction of the programme.

The PIL filed by lawyer Joginder Kumar Sukhija claimed that students would be at a disadvantage with the seat cuts. The varsity has been giving chance to 2,310 students to pursue LLB course until now. The cap on LLB seats by BCI is not judicial. On the other hand, the Law Faculty of DU also worked on improving the infrastructural and other allied facilities as per BCI instructions.

Earlier, law aspirants of DU expressed that seat cuts in LLB course will restrict chances of getting admission. Considering the rising demand for the law course, it was stressed that the BCI shall not forcefully impose seat cuts in DU law school.

DU LLB 2017 entrance examination will take place on July 2, 2017. The applicants can download the admit card from the official admissions portal of Delhi University (DU).
