On June 19, 2017, the High Court of Delhi mentioned that the Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE might have committed errors while evaluating the answer sheets of CBSE Class 12 examinations. Therefore, the court directed the CBSE to take a decision regarding the scrapping of the re-evaluation policy. The court wants CBSE to bring back the re-evaluation so that students will not lose the marks due to the errors made by the CBSE.

The next hearing on the issue will take place on June 21, 2017, and CBSE will have to submit its marking scheme for various subjects of Class 12 before the court. According to sources, marks of many students doubled and even shot up by large numbers after they had applied for verification. Responding on the issue, CBSE clarified that there were totalling errors.

The High Court bench questioned CBSE on how many errors would there be in the evaluation if there were errors in totalling of marks. Defending the argument, CBSE stated that the report on totalling of marks was sensationalised. Usually, students can approach the board directly if they find any issues/ discrepancies regarding the evaluation and totalling. The board then provides a photocopy of answer sheets to students, CBSE argued.

CBSE Class 12 students had challenged the board’s decision of scrapping the re-evaluation policy. Recently, one of the students also challenged CBSE's decision and sought the re-evaluation of Class 12 Economics answer sheet. The petitioner also claimed that High Court of Odisha directed CBSE to re-evaluate the answer sheets of 150 students. Therefore, CBSE sought a copy of Odisha HC review, and no decision has been taken yet on the issue.
