Delhi University Starts Undergraduate Classes in Virtual Mode

Delhi University has started with its academic session in virtual mode after a delay of four months. The academic session for UG courses started on 18th November 2020. The varsity conducted the orientation programme for the first-year students in the online mode.

According to the reports, 68,000 of the 70,000 undergraduate seats have been filled so far under the five cutoff lists released by the university. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the entire admission process of the university was held online. The varsity was even to release the special cut-off list for remaining seats but the same has been deferred due to the many DU officials testing positive for COVID-19.

Sonakshi Tyagi, a fresher at Gargi College said that with the new classes and orientation programme being held online students are missing out on the real-life experiences. However, this is normal and everyone has to adapt to these changes.

Puran Bisht, a Shivaji college student, said that the excitement was lacking because it is not we are going to interact with 20 people and make friends for the rest of your lives. It was the same feeling of being at home and attending online classes.

Many colleges such as Hindu College, Miranda House, St Stephen's College, Ramjas College, SRCC and many other colleges have opted for an online programme. The colleges introduced several elements and laid emphasis on the impact of COVID-19 on the mental health of students. First-year colleges students were also introduced to college counsellors and online sessions are being lined up with these counsellors.
