Delhi University Brings Back End-Semester Practical Examination
Presently, with the changed rules, 50% of the assessment will be done through an end semester examination, within the sight of an external examiner.
The Delhi University will hold the end semester exams for practical papers this year. The examination was discarded with the implementation of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) a year ago. Since then, the teachers had been challenging the DU move. However, now Delhi University has brought back the end semester examination for practical papers.
More than 400 professors had marked an appeal, asking Vice Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi to bring back the end semester practical examination in March this year. They had contended that the examination was essential to keep up consistency and a minimum standard of examination across colleges in the university.

Presently, with the changed rules, 50% of the assessment will be done through an end semester examination, within sight of an external examiner. The examiner will be delegated by the Committee of the courses of the university department.
The rule is pertinent for the core and elective courses which have a practical component, particularly the science papers.
Abha Dev Habib, Physical Science Teacher at Miranda House, revealed that it is a vital stride and it will keep up consistency across colleges. He further added that it also gives students a chance to cover for their performance in the practical classes.

The remaining 50% marks of the assessment will be dispersed on the premise of some tests completed by the students in one semester. The quantity of experiments a student needs to perform in one semester will be chosen by committee group of courses of the distinctive divisions.
A year ago, without rules from the university, every department had devised mechanisms to guarantee that the assessment had both examination and continuous assessment component.
