Delhi University Faculty of Law: 450 Students Detained from Exams
- DU detained 450 students from exams due to the shortage of attendance.
- ABVP staged a protest on May 09, 2018, demanding authorities to allow students for exams.
Close to 450 students of Delhi University’s Law Faculty debarred from writing exams due to the shortage of attendance. An official notice has been served to 450 students of Law Centre I and Law Centre II. The official notice stated that these candidates have detained from exams as they failed to maintain the minimum attendance percentage prescribed by the varsity. However, President of All India Students’ Association – DU, Kawalpreet Kaur alleged that the attendance was given in an arbitrary manner.

Kawalpreet Kaur further mentioned that the classes were partially conducted in January and February. The classes began in full swing only in the month of March. The varsity was busy with permanent recruitment of faculty, and teachers kept on changing creating a lot of confusion to students. Therefore, students should not be solely blamed for the shortage of attendance, she added.
Detaining law students from examinations is a continuing scenario that is witnessed every year at DU. It is time for the varsity to take a serious note of various issues and regulate such instances in future.

Meanwhile, ABVP alleged that the varsity did not put the attendance of students until April on the notice board. On the other hand, the Faculty of Law is not permitting the students with less attendance record for the exams even though they produced a medical certificate. Similarly, the authorities calculated the attendance of students from the month of January even though classes did not start in a full swing. The ABVP demanded the Campus Law Centre give clarity in this regard.
