Delhi University Misprints Cut-Off, Ruckus at DU College

Misprinting of cut-off by Delhi University had led to a chaos at Shaheed Bhagat Singh (Evening) College on July 18, 2017. The issue came into limelight when many students who went to seek admission to B.Com course were denied admission. The authorities of the college informed the students that they did not clear the cut-off and were ineligible to seek admission.

The Principal of Shaheed Bhagat Singh (Evening) College revealed that the clerk who was given the responsibility of typing the cut-off list typed eight instead of nine by mistake. The actual cut-off for B.Com course was 90%. However, due to the typing error, the cut-off list displayed 80%. The college administration brought it to the notice of the varsity and the corrigendum was up by 10:00 AM. Since Shaheed Bhagat Singh College functions in the evening, the admission process begins at 4:00 PM. However, few students and union members created disturbance in the morning.

The Principal clarified that they did not cause any problem or discomfort to the students. He added that the cut-off for B.Com course was 90% only and the eligible students will be granted admission basis that only.

He further revealed that few students accompanied by students’ union reached the college in the morning on July 19, 2017, and caused a disturbance by trying to break the lock of the Principal’s room. The management of the college was forced to call the police to control the students. There were no instances of violence. Around 240-300 students gathered at the college who were nervous that they might not get admission. The officials of Delhi University have not commented on the issue yet.
