The University of Delhi has extended its closure and will remain shut till 31st May 2020 due to the extension of the lockdown. The decision of the closure has been taken in view of the extended lockdown announced due to the prevailing COVOD-19 outbreak in the nation.

Delhi University has released a statement and informing its students that the university and colleges will remain shut till May 31, 2020. For the 2020/21 academic year, the Delhi University Entrance Test (DUET) has been put on hold until the situation is stable. Meanwhile, DU is planning to conduct online entrance exams for UG and PG courses. DUCC is working to come up with an app to facilitate the same. The step has been taken to avoid any further delay in the academic year and so that the students do not suffer.

The online teaching plan will continue as directed by the Departments and they are also working to strengthen the process further. Delhi University website has details of all the online platforms and services. The website also has details regarding VPN connection for its students and teachers to have access to library resources from home itself. However, there are certain technical glitches in the online portal as informed by DU professors and students.

NSUI: Promote 1st and 2nd Year College Students Without Holding Exams

NSUI has come up with a new proposal to promote first-year and second-year students without conducting exams as there is no clarity about uplifting the lockdown. According to the suggestions made by NSUI final year, DU college students should be promoted on the basis of their performance, plus 10% extra marks. As it is observed that students usually improve their performance in the final year.

Meanwhile, Mumbai University has also instructed the faculty to continue the teaching work via an online platform. The university will conduct exams once the lockdown is lifted and a final decision in this regard will be taken on the basis of directions from the central and state government.

The State Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Uday Samant had a word with the state universities and the directors of DTE along with the Principal Secretary of State asking them to come up with ideas for conducting the exams for the session 2020-21. However, there has been no decision yet regarding the exam dates and other details. The state government is likely to come up with a decision soon. The minister has also set up an expert committee to help in generating a contingency plan for conducting the exam once the lockdown is lifted according to a university official.

All national level entrance exams, recruitment, and board exams have been cancelled till the same and revised dates will be issued after lockdown is over.

Educational institutes and universities are doing their best to conduct virtual classes and not to hamper the learning of the students. The universities are trying their best to conduct regular classes, assign classwork and assessments so that the academic year of the students is not affected.
