Delhi University might be considering a syllabus cut for its 2020 session, which is expected to begin in the month of October. The possibility of reduced winter vacation and using a mixed-mode of classroom teaching and online learning are also on the table for the university.

Many school boards such as the CBSE have announced syllabus cuts and it seems like universities and colleges in India might go down the same route. The educational establishments have lost a lot of classroom hours due to the COVID-19 pandemic and syllabus cuts are being considered as the way forward to help reduce the burden on the students as well as the teachers.

One of the largest universities of India, Delhi University (DU) is also considering a reduced syllabus for the upcoming session about to begin in September 2020. Officials of the university are pondering whether a reduced syllabus would be the correct way forward for the university.

As per the available information, officials of DU came together in an informal discussion on the upcoming academic season and a reduced syllabus was one of the things on the agenda. So, students might soon get news about a syllabus cut from Delhi University.

Admissions Delayed in DU

Normally, Delhi University completed its admission processes by June and classes used to begin by mid-July. However, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the Class 12th syllabus and the applications for the various courses available at DU are still open.

As per the schedule Delhi university 2020 admissions schedule, the first cut off is expected to be released by 11-14 August 2020 and the admission process will extend till at least the 2nd week of September 2020. Students can expect classes to begin either by late September or October 2020.

Less Time to Cover the Syllabus

Since the date of commencement of classes in DU has been postponed by about 3 months, completing the whole syllabus will put a massive burden on the students and the teachers. Hence, a syllabus cut may be announced by the university.

However, no other details about the topics dropped from the DU syllabus is available. Students will have to wait for an official announcement from the university before they can get some relief.

Syllabus Cut Not an Easy Option for DU

Reducing the syllabus will not be an easy option for DU as the university follows the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). Therefore, it will have to get approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) before it can make any changes.

Hence, the university is also considering the option of reducing the duration of the winter vacation to make up for the lost time and cover up the syllabus. It is also likely that the university will make use of both classroom and online modes of learning to best assist its students.

We wish all students best of luck for their admission into Delhi University. Stay tuned to CollegeDekho for the latest news and updates!
