Delhi University Scraps Online Entrance Exam for M.Phil, Ph.D. & PG Courses

Finally, the University of Delhi has given clarity on admission process for M.Phil, Ph.D & PG courses. The varsity has decided to rollback the decision of holding online entrance examination for these courses. Now, the varsity will conduct offline entrance examination for the admission to these courses.
Earlier, the Standing Committee on Admissions had given the nod for conducting online and offline examinations for various PG programmes, Ph.D. and M.Phil courses. The Standing Committee took this decision on May 19, 2017. However, the decision of the varsity to hold online entrance examination received a negative response from the students’ union ABVP. The union claimed that rural students might suffer if the varsity conducts online entrance examination.

Considering the demands made by the students’ union, the varsity decided to stick to offline examination. The varsity was of the opinion that conducting both online and offline examination is unfeasible. Therefore, the varsity decided to do away with online examination for this year. If conditions are favourable, the varsity might implement online entrance examination next year.
Delhi University will conduct offline entrance examination in six centres across the country. The centres include -
- Bangalore or Chennai
- Nagpur
- Guwahati
- Varanasi
- Kolkata
- Delhi

The Standing Committee also recommended Ranchi or Patna as the examination centres. However, the proposal was not approved.
