Delhi University Undergraduate Syllabus Revision Process Underway
Delhi University is revising its syllabus to make the courses more outcome-oriented to inculcate global values in students. The revision will help add new things to the curriculum.
The University of Delhi has recently come up with the decision to revise its courses and the course revision will be done keeping in mind the factors of ‘Learning Outcome-based Framework’ or LOCF which was issued by the University Grants Council last year to make the courses more skill-based and practical outcome-oriented for the students. The drafts for Delhi University Under-graduate course curriculum revision have to be submitted to the executive council by June 20, 2019.
As per the NAAC or National Assessment and Accreditation Council, the routine curriculum revision of Delhi University is pending from 2017. With the recent guidelines launched by UGC, the syllabus revision process is expected to gain momentum.
The Chairperson of Under-Graduate curriculum revision committee at Delhi University, Professor Chandrashekhar Dubey said that the decision of modifying the UG Curriculum of DU has been taken to cope with the Industrial Revolution 4.0 that is taking place in India. The teaching process needs to be changed to inculcate the globalised industrial values among the students with the help of the modified coursework. Assessment patterns, course outcome, and patterns will be changed.
He also added that there are talks to include the previous year toppers in the curriculum revision process but the problem is they intend to join other universities for further studies, this is why there are plans to include Post-graduate students but as of now, the students of respective department are taking active part in revising the syllabus.
However, the decision of revising the syllabus initially faced protests by the faculties of DU.

There are around 7 lakh students in the upcoming academic year who opted for the School of Open Learning (SOL), Non-Collegiate Women Education Board (NCWEB) and regular colleges who will follow the newly revised syllabus from 2019-20 academic year. Out of 70 UG courses in Delhi University, 39 courses are seeing the syllabus revision in 2019 as directed by UGC. UGC has also come up with a dashboard for teachers to collaborate with each other in creating the new syllabus.
