Delhi University: VC Assures Holding Bi-Monthly Meetings with DUTA

Finally, the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University, Mr. Yogesh K Tyagi assured Delhi University Teachers’ Association that he would hold bi-monthly meetings to answer the demands of DUTA. The statement from VC of Delhi University came on May 10, 2017, following the protest by teachers’ association outside the VC’s office on May 9, 2017.

Prof. Rajesh Jha, one of the professors and council member, revealed that holding bi-monthly meetings would only meet the demands of teachers partially.

The Delhi University Teachers’ Association made several demands that include the issue of notification for recruitment of librarians and physical education teachers, absorption of ad-hoc teachers, pensions and tampering of service conditions.

Nandita Narain, President of Delhi University Teachers’ Association revealed that the VC assured to initiate the recruitment process for librarians and physical education teachers without much delay. He also responded positively regarding the release of pension for those who were not covered by the court case. The Vice Chancellor also assured democratic composition of the Health Centre Advisory Committee.

Last week, the teachers of Delhi University protested against the authorities for tampering with their service conditions. The teachers claimed that VC of Delhi University was causing a lot of inconvenience to teachers by taking unsatisfactory decisions. Around 70 teachers also demanded confirmation of their appointment as they completed two years of service as ad-hoc teachers.

Teachers also protested against the application form issued by the varsity for the confirmation of the appointment. They claimed that the link issued to fill the application form directed the teachers to apply for a new job even though they completed 2 ½ years of service.
