Doctors’ Association Demands NEET Centre in Kashmir

A doctors’ association in Kashmir requested the government to establish a NEET centre in the valley. This year, thousands of students from Valley applied for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Dr. Nisar ul Hassan, President of Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK), explained that establishing a centre in Kashmir would benefit thousands of aspirants applying for the test.

Currently, Jammu has a NEET centre and the candidates from Kashmir faced difficulty and fear to appear for the test this year. The test for the academic session 2017 will take place from December 3 to December 13, 2016. The online examination would be held in 86 test centres across 41 cities.

Hassan made a recommendation to the government through a written statement and mentioned that the career of thousands of students would ultimately be in jeopardy if the government does not establish a test centre in Kashmir.

Last year, the students from Valley reached the examination centres with many difficulties due to social unrest in Kashmir. The functioning of hospitals in Kashmir is being affected as some of the doctors are appearing for exam in Jammu. Hence, if there would be a centre in Kashmir, it would save the time for the doctors.

Hassan also pointed that going out from Kashmir to take the examination is expensive and the candidates need to spend much money on travelling, boarding and lodging.

NEET is a single window entrance examination conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE) for the admission to MD/MS and Diploma courses. Currently, most of the states are conducting admissions according to NEET score, and it has replaced all state level tests.
