Doon University Faces Flak from Students

Doon University was established by the Government of Uttarakhand in 2005. Doon University has a huge campus and it is clean and hygienic, but there are some things that the university is not able to keep track of and even the students complain about these issues frequently.

The campus comprises of the following issues:

• The university is said to be Wi-Fi enabled, but the Wi-Fi rarely works
• The Accounts Department does not deliver the cheques etc. of the students on time
• Placement is also an issue sometimes
• A complaint by Mass Communication students is that the department does not teach camera, editing etc properly
• Even the faculty is not happy with the way a department conducts various day to day practices

Infrastructure

In addition, students living in the hostel complained that the Wi-Fii was not working and they couldn't submit an assignment on time and on the same day there was a lot of electricity issue, the students had to go outside the Registrar's and Vice Chanchellor's residence to complain and ask them resolve this issue as soon as they can.

Accounts/ Refund

In a similar incident in 2015, the students had gone to Roorkee for which they paid the travel expense on their own and the cheque is still pending. The callousness of the management can be gauged from the fact that the Accounts Department did not pay any heed to this issue and it still remains unpaid. In addition, students who have passed out of the University, have to make repeated trips to the University for the security and refund cheques.

Placements

The placement structure of any college is a very important aspect of a college/ university. In one incident, Infosys, a well known company, visited Doon University as part of the placement drive to recruit Mass Communication students for their BPO sector! College sources say that this is not the first time that such mismanagement has happened. There is no drive or inclination to ensure the student's placeement.

Teaching Malpractices

Students are sent to the field to make movies, documentaries etc., but are not taught about camera and editing properly. Not just the management, students mock at the faculty regularly asking them questions that they are not able to answer.

If anyone stands up for these issues the whole department targets hin/ her of not being loyal and complaining of the department.

The university needs reconciliation, else the future of the students and what they gain from the university can be in jeopardy.
