Jaskiran Chopra one of the senior most journalists in the state and an author was honored this year by the chief minister Harish Rawat for her contribution in the sphere of Journalism over the years. Jaskiran Chopra has been associated with Doon University for the last six years as a visiting faculty in the school of communication. She teaches Public relations, Advertising and, Cinema. She has been a professional journalist ever since she joined United news of India at New Delhi as a sub-editor on the English desk. Later, she was the Bureau chief for UNI after setting up the Bureau when hill state of Uttarakhand was created. In 2004, she joined the Times of India as the correspondent. After working with this newspaper till 2009, she joined the Pioneer as the special correspondent, writing features, interviews,books reviews and travel stories is her forte. She has been writing special features related to the history of Doon Valley and Mussoorie. A large number of articles on renowned author Ruskin Bond are an important part of her work as a journalist. Jaskiran Chopra's recent book titled memories of another day was released in November by Uttarakhand Governor Dr. K.K Paul at Raj Bhawan. It is a collection of stories that captures the vanishing beauty of Doon and Mussoorie. Nostalgia is its theme and it takes the reader back in time when life was not so fast-paced and there was abundant natural splendor around us.
On receiving the honor, she said that she has been working as a journalist several years before the state was created and was humbled as this is a great achievement for someone covering the hills since last 23 years.
Doon University has all faculties of this sort and thus students have guided the same way for their better future.
