Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, named after Sant Gadge Baba, is a public/ state university located at Amravati in the Vidarbha region of the state of Maharashtra, India.
The University was established on 1 May 1983 through partitioning of University of Nagpur.
The university campus is spread over an area of 225 hectares, and the university is home to 20 post-graduate departments offering 25 courses in different disciplines.It has jurisdiction over five districts of Maharashtra: Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Yavatmal, and Washim.
He had earlier held the post of pro-vice chancellor at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University.
Dr Chandekar said he had learned a lot from Sapkal when he was the pro-VC of Nagpur varsity while Sapkal was the vice chancellor. "I learned a lot from him and I am feeling honoured by taking over the charge from him," he said. Dr Chandekar said his focus will be bringing reforms in the education system to make students more compatible to face the current global challenges.
Sapkal also expressed his views on the occasion. At the outset registrar, Ajay Deshmukh welcomed Chandekar. Public relation officer Vilas Nandurkar conducted the proceedings. Former Pro-VC Jaikiran Tidke, HoDs and other staff members of the varsity were present.
