DSNLU Campus to be Operational by Next May

The new campus of the Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University (DSNLU) that is coming up at Sabbavaram would be ready by May 2016.

This news was disclosed on Thursday by the in-charge Vice-Chancellor of the university G.S.N. Raju.

The campus is coming up on a 45-acre land and would have an academic block and two hostel blocks one each for boys and girls. Prof. Raju stated,” In the next phase, we will have the indoor auditorium, games block, administration block and residential quarters for the Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, and the faculty members.”

The CPWD is supervising the work on all the three buildings under the first phase at a cost of Rs 38 crore. Prof. Raju added that the hostel would be able to accommodate 800 students and would have all the modern facilities such as canteen, Internet, Wi-Fi, library, reading-room and back-up generators. He said,” We will be investing on at least two 350 Kv diesel-run generators and build a sewage treatment plan at an estimated cost of Rs 1.08 crore.”

Negotiations are also going on between the law university and the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APEPDCL) and vendors for installing rooftop solar plants. According to B. Ramesh Kumar who is the Chief General Manager (Operations) of the APEPDCL, the survey was on to install roof top facility that would generate at least 500kW of solar energy.

Mr Ramesh added, “It would cost the university between Rs 3.5 crore and Rs 4 crore. Net metering facility would also be provided so that the excess power can be passed onto the grid.”

The Road Issue

The distance between the law university and the main road is about 500 meters. On top of that the road that connects the university is just 15 feet wide. The university intends to make it at least 80 feet wide. The in-charge Vice-Chancellor and MLA Bandaru Satyanarayna Murthy called the 10 farmers who own the land on both sides of the road for negotiations on Thursday.

The farmers have agreed to give 70 cents of land that is required to widen the road on the condition that they be given double the land holding in the proximity. This has been accepted by the MLA and MRO and now the issue has been referred to the District Collector.
