The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Maharashtra is considering to introduce changes in the syllabus as well as the pattern of the engineering entrance exam. The move came after a series of hurdles students faced in medical admissions this year in the state.
Director of Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Dayanand Meshram told the media that discussions were on to change the pattern of the examination to align it with that of the central Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).

The discussion was initiated after this year’s medical aspirants faced a lot of hurdles because of the last-minute decision regarding National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) making it mandatory.
Many students were puzzled this year with last minute change as they had prepared for the state Common Entrance Test (CET) instead of the NEET, which is based on the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus. Foreseeing the same situation in engineering admission process, now DTE is thinking over a change in the CET. But the changes are yet to be proposed to the state Government. If Maharashtra government approves the changes, it will be applicable from the academic year 2018-19.

He also said that NEET was introduced to ensure transparency in the medical admission process. In case a decision is taken to hold a central entrance examination for the engineering colleges' admission they don’t want the aspirants to be in trouble.
Even Sitaram Kunte, Principal Secretary for Higher and Technical Education of Maharashtra agreed that there was a trend of centralizing processes for the admission. If the proposal is submitted, it needs to be evaluated properly before taking a decision.
