The University of Delhi reports an overflow of applications in three of its Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) streams in the upcoming academic year. Three of the courses which witnessed the highest number of applications are, Journalism, Sociology and Psychology. This is mainly because of the lack of availability of these courses in most of the colleges affiliated to Delhi University.

However, the most applied for BA course in the University of Delhi is B.A. Honors in English, the B.A. Honours in Journalism saw the highest seat to applicant ratio where 367 applicants are competing for one seat. In the B.A. (Hons) Sociology course, the ratio is 232:1!

The registration for UG Program in Delhi University closed on Saturday. 10 courses have reported the highest number of applicants in the DU 2019 UG Admission session. The courses are, B.A. (Hons) English; B.A. (Hons) Political Science; B.A. Programme; B.A. (Hons) Economics; B.A. (Hons) History; B.A. (Hons) Psychology; B.A. (Hons) Journalism; B.A. (Hons) Sociology; B.A. (Hons) Geography; and B.Com.

English Honours, like the previous year, becomes the most popular course of the current year as well. The total number of applicants applying for English Hons is 1,42,970. With the total of 2,460 seats across 46 affiliated colleges, the ratio of applicants per seat is 58.

Only 7 colleges under affiliation of the University of Delhi offer Journalism Courses. The colleges are Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, Bharati College, Kalindi College, Institute of Home Economics, Kamala Nehru College, Lady Shri Ram College, and Maharaja Agrasen College.

The highest cut-off last year in the first list for B.A. (Hons.) Journalism programme was 98.5% in Delhi College of Arts and Commerce. The lowest percentage in the first list was 92% at Bharati College.

With the ratio of 232 applicants for one seat, B.A. (Honours) Sociology, has 483 seats available in 10 colleges and a total of 1,11,933 applications have been received, It has the second highest number of applicants per seat.

Last year, the cutoff for B.A. (Honours) Psychology, went as high as 98.25%, the course has 202 students applicants for a single seat. It also has the sixth highest number of applications where 1,12,312 applied for 555 seats available in 11 colleges.

This year the university changed many of its eligibility criteria for subjects like Economics and Mathematics. The University of Delhi is one of the biggest central universities in the country and is recognised as one of the top government universities according to NIRF Ranking.
