DU success stories never fail to inspire the aspirants who want to secure admissions in the top colleges of the university. With sky-high cut-offs, it becomes very difficult for students to take admissions in the University of Delhi. However, there are a few students who fight all hardships and problems to take admission in the university.

Two examples of such students have also emerged in 2017 including a labourer’s son who secured admission in Kirori Mal College of DU, Devinder got a seat in Shaheed Bhagat Singh College and a girl who secured admission in Hansraj College. The thing that these two students have in common is that they both hail from Delhi slums and have overcome all odds to secure admission in DU.

17-year-old Prince, is a resident of India's biggest scrap markets Mayapuri and has battled throughout his school life to secure his future. In the disturbance of passing trains and stinking heaps of garbage, Prince gave his 100% while preparing for his class 12 board exams.

He scored 94% marks in class 12 board exams and secured admission in the political science course at Kirori Mal College. He aspires to become an IAS officer so that he can provide for his family and lead a better life.

Devinder is from the Delhi's Tigri slum area and is another one of the students who have secured good education opportunities for himself despite his struggle. He is the first member of his family to go to college.

He secured admission in Shaheed Bhagat Singh College and is doing his best not to fall sick as the area where he resides is under a constant threat of disease outbreak due to monsoon. He scored 90.7% marks in class 12 exams and is pursuing his BA in Geography.

Another student who has achieved success beyond measure after battling difficult living conditions is Madhu who resides at the Indira Camp slum. She is pursuing Hindi from Hansraj College and wishes to empower women through effective journalism.

Madhu scored 88% marks in class 12 exams who thinks that she could have scored better if not for the conditions of the slum where she resides. She also gives the credit of her education to her parents who, despite all the economic problems, have supported her throughout her education.

Asha Community Health and Development Society, an NGO, reported that 130 children from different slums of Delhi and surrounding regions have secured admission in some of the top DU colleges like Kirori Mal College, Zakir Hussain College, Kamala Nehru College, Maitreyi College and Hansraj College.
