Around 15 students from Mauritius who landed in Delhi to enroll for admissions at the University of Delhi were left disheartened due to the lack of proper communication between the Mauritius Embassy and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

These students bagged scholarships from ICCR and had come to Delhi to get a seat at the prestigious DU. The Mauritius Embassy informed the students that someone from the ICCR would pick up the students from the airport. However, students were not received at the airport by any of the officials or representative from ICCR. These students along with their parents waited for one hour and finally reached the University of Delhi with the help of the address that was printed on a letter given by Mauritius Embassy by 9:00 AM.

After reaching the university, the officials informed the candidates to wait in the conference room located in the North Campus of Delhi University. However, the varsity did not arrange for any facilities for the students and parents. Finally, it was at around 3:00 PM that the officials informed the candidates needed to visit the ICCR first. Later, students contacted the Foreign Students Registry (FSR) office. The officials collected all the original documents from the students and directed the students to submit the photocopy of passport. Students were nervous searching for a Xerox centre as they were not familiar with the campus. Students claimed that if the officials had informed earlier about the admission formalities, a lot of time would have been saved.

An official of FSR office revealed that they did not receive any communication from the Mauritius Embassy regarding the arrival of students. It was the FSR office that communicated the same to the ICCR. The officials sorted out the issue and completed all the preliminary formalities.

Students were not happy with the policy of Mauritius Embassy that printed the address of the University of Delhi instead of ICCR.
