Students looking forward to seeking admission in Delhi University need not worry about the trend of higher cut-offs. The DU first cut off listthat was out on June 18, 2018, revealed that students must have at least 95% marks in order to secure seats in top colleges and courses of DU. Candidates who do not come under that bracket are awaiting the DU second cut-off, which is expected to witness a slight dip in the minimum marks required for admission.

Most of the colleges are extra cautious while announcing the first cut-off and it is possible to come up with realistic cut-offs only after the admissions under first cut-off list are over. In all, the second cut-off list for UG courses will be more realistic.

For instance, most of the popular courses in DU witnessed a drop of 0.50% points from the first list in 2017. Similarly, there was 1.77% points drop in the average cut-off for popular courses. On the other hand, the highest difference was a drop of 15% points in courses like Urdu (Hons), Sanskrit and Punjabi.

The problem with most colleges is that if they maintain the first cut-off in a realistic way, the number of students turning up for admissions will be more and the college will not be able to refuse admission. The colleges will get clarity on how the seats are being filled only after the first cut-off list.

This year, B.A course witnessed the higher cut-off of 98.75%, followed by Journalism with a cut off of 98.50%.
