A notice has been released by the University of Delhi regarding preventive measures against ragging for the academic session 2017-18. The notice comprises a list of measures to prevent eve teasing, ragging and all other prohibited activities across colleges affiliated to DU.

Following are the protective measures taken by DU for its students:

Anti-ragging:

  • Guardians of all students have been asked to submit undertakings at the time of admissions as assurance that their wards will not indulge in ragging activities.
  • Two joint central rooms have also been set up for this purpose in both North Campus and South Campus.
  • Disciplinary and anti-ragging committees will be set up at all colleges in order to prevent ragging.
  • Rules regarding ragging will be put up at the notice-board of colleges. Also, extra security is being maintained at student gathering points such as eating joints.

Women’s safety:

  • DU has also tied up with Delhi Police to provide additional security to its female students.
  • Women cops in civil dress code will be stationed in and around the colleges to catch offenders of eve teasing and other such incidents.
  • Self-defence training will also be provided to female students by the women police of Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) who will be trained in martial arts.
  • DU has also asked students living in PG to get their accommodations verified by the police for security reasons.

Outsiders, defacing of property and traffic:

  • Regarding the security from identified individuals, DU has laid down rules to prevent outsiders from entering colleges, hostels or any other university premises.
  • Graffiti, wall painting, defacing of property and using posters on the university’s property has also been prohibited.
  • Delhi Police will be stationed near all crucial traffic zones and students have been advised to use public mode of transportation to prevent road blocks and congestion.

Steps to file a complaint:

  • Students can submit a written complaint in the complaint box of their respective college.
  • Regarding ragging incidents, students can call the National Anti-Ragging Helpline number 1800 180 5522.
  • Students can also contact either of the Joint Control Rooms (North Campus- 27667221; South Campus- 24119832) for any kind of safety assistance.
  • Directly informing the Delhi Police by dialling 100 will enable students to contact the nearest PCR van in cases of emergency.
  • Students can also contact the University Information Centre at 155215, 27006900. Assistance through these lines will be available from Monday to Friday.
  • Assistance is also provided through email at proctor@du.ac.in, infocentre@du.ac.in
