Even though the registrations for DU Admissions 2017 began on May 22, 2017, and ended on June 12, 2017, the number of applications submitted this year dropped by 40,000. The varsity offered an almost 20-day window for the aspirants to register for various UG courses. Now, the application process is over, and a total of 2,07,751 candidates submitted the application form. However, 2,50,914 candidates registered for UG courses at DU in 2016. The varsity offers 54,000 seats in UG courses.

Giving reasons for the drop in the number of applications, one of the officials revealed that the technical glitches on the official portal of Delhi University and delay in board results are the main reasons. Initially, not all the tabs on the official portal worked. CBSE also declared Class 12 results on May 28, 2017. These reasons might have impacted the number of applications.

This year, the varsity received more applications from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi. There was also a good response from the students in various other parts of the country. Only 33 students from Andaman & Nicobar Islands registered for UG courses this year. Continuing the trend, B.A English (Hons.) and B.Com are the most sought-after courses.

One of the officials indicated that students can apply for B.A English (Hons.) and B.Com programmes irrespective of their stream. Therefore, there are more applicants for these courses. Apart from these courses, B.A Economics (Hons.) and B.A Journalism (Hons.) also witnessed several applications. Only 5 colleges of DU offer B.A Journalism (Hons.) and 76,154 students registered for the same. All five DU colleges offer around 240 seats in B.A Journalism (Hons.) course.
