Students who have already taken admission in Delhi University colleges can re-apply at institutions that have vacant seats without withdrawing their previous admission.

Previously students had to withdraw their admission before applying at another college. Now the new decision is contrary to the rules for which the colleges are perplexed as the new academic session has started and college authority feel that this will lead to a large number of withdrawal of students from the colleges.

In an emergency meeting called by the university admission committee took the decision that without withdrawing admission students should be allowed to apply.

This year DU released five cut-off lists. The colleges were asked to make merit list to fill the vacant seats after the final list.

Off-campus colleges will be mainly affected. Students with 90% and above marks would opt to study at colleges in North Campus. It will definitely bring back the long process of admission withdrawal,” said a principal from a college of North Campus. On last Monday the admission process under the merit list started.

Students and parents strongly objected the new rule and met the Dean Students Welfare (DSW) and appraised about their apprehension. Students who had taken admission in colleges feel that they could not re-apply until the earlier admission rule .

Surprisingly, the admission bulletin of the university does not mention that we cannot apply to a college, said a parent of a student.

Before the admission process started, University should have mentioned the rule clearly in the bulletin and clarified process, said some of the principals of colleges.

Under this process, the admission will take place till the fifth merit list, provided seats remain vacant.

However, several students organisations have objected to the change in the rule. They submitted a representation to DU vice-chancellor while citing that this could lead to corruption.
