Delhi University takes another trend-changing decision, the traditional cut-off based admission process might be scraped by the university. The administration is in talks with the HRD ministry to replace the cut-off system with entrance exams for 75 colleges affiliated to DU.

The discussion is going on regarding the implementation of an entrance examination and give admissions to students on the basis of a merit list.

The university has been planning to take this action as even after the school boards are producing high results, students are not able to get admissions as the DU cut-offs are way too high. This further impacts the plans of the students.

Yogesh Tyagi, Vice-chancellor informed that a proposal regarding this is being considered. She also said that once the university will be through with the admissions and the session starts smoothly, then the proposition will be examined in detail.

Conducting entrance exam for admissions will be an extensive amount of work as over 3 lakh students from across the country apply for the Delhi University every year, added the Vice Chancellor.

The discussion has also been taken up to the Ministry of Human Resource Development level. As per the officials of the ministry, all central universities have the authority to set their own admission policy.

Saying that the inflation in school board marks is a bane for the students, Tyagi said that there is a need to set up an entrance examination in place for DU. He also said that there needs to be a well-structured discussion for this so that important details like organizing the exam, how to bring in exam centres, the number of centres required, locations of the centres and other details can be discussed.

As per 2016's last (5th) DU cut-off, seats still remain vacant in some of the prominent colleges for popular courses.

Delhi University has started its session from today, July 20, hoping that the admission procedure will be over by July 22.
