DU's Delhi School of Journalism to Launch Short Term, M.Phil and Ph.D. Courses

Delhi University’s Delhi School of Journalism (DSJ), which commenced its academic activities in September 2017, is planning to launch Ph.D. and M.Phil courses by 2020.

At present, DSJ offers a five-year integrated course in Journalism. Within six months, the demand for the integrated course offered by DSJ increased drastically. This year, 11,800 appeared for the entrance test conducted by DSJ for the admission to the five-year integrated course in Journalism.

Office of Special Duty – DSJ, Dr. Manasvini revealed that the journalism school is planning to launch Master’s course in 2020. At the same time, there are also chances for introducing M.Phil and Ph.D. courses in the same year. DSJ will soon give confirmation in this regard, she added.

Even though DSJ offers a five-year integrated course in journalism, students will get a chance to exit the course at the end of the third year. The exit option will be beneficial for students who wish to work immediately after the completion of Bachelor’s degree.

If DSJ comes up with a Master’s course, students from other streams can also appear for the DSJ entrance exam. The aspirants need to wait a few more days for the official announcement on DSJ master’s course.

This year, DSJ is also looking forward to introducing a bunch of short-term courses in science journalism, sports journalism, documentary filmmaking, video editing and photography.

Six colleges affiliated to Delhi University offer courses in Journalism. Among them, 4 colleges enroll only girl students. Not many boys have the option to explore chances to pursue journalism courses at DU.

The University of Delhi will soon set up Department of Journalism and bring segregated journalism department of all DU colleges under its ambit, for which permanent faculty members will also be recruited.
