DU: Demand for Absorption of Adhoc Teachers Echoed at Academic Council Meet

On June 22, 2017, the Academic Council meeting of the University of Delhi echoed with the demand for the absorption of temporary and Adhoc teachers. The continuous demand raised by the members disrupted the formal procedure of the Academic Council meeting. The proceedings began at 2:00 PM. However, the resolutions seeking ordinance for the absorption of temporary and ad-hoc teachers were not taken up. The chair accepted to take the matter for discussion and refused to take up the resolution.
One of the council members revealed that they were highly dissatisfied with the decision of the Academic Council, and demanded to take up the resolution. He further mentioned that the decision of AC not to up resolution is undemocratic.

The Academic Council meeting began at 2:00 PM on June 22, 2017, and continued until midnight.
The resolution on the absorption of temporary and ad-hoc teachers indicated that the AC meeting which took place on June 20, 2017, resolved to issue confirmation letters to all the teachers who have completed one year of service as per Ordinance XI.

Apart from the major issue, University Teacher’s Forum and Council of Academics and Action Development of DU opposed the move to launch five-year Journalism course in self-financing mode. The process through which the varsity wanted to launch the course has some lapses. One of the members pointed that the course aims at contractualisation and privatisation.
Various other issues taken up during the meeting were pensions, promotions and extension of Ph.D. programme.
