The second phase of Delhi University (DU) Open Book Exams (OBE) is set to begin from 14 September. Students who were unable to appear for the first phase of DU OBE would be able to appear in the second phase. Delhi University has made some major announcements regarding the second phase of open-book exams. The university is taking multiple measures to ensure the safety of the students appearing for the examinations.

Information Released in an Affidavit Filed Before the Delhi High Court

Delhi University filed an affidavit before the Delhi High Course on 27 August through which it made public many important details about the upcoming examinations. As per the affidavit, all students and staff members have to adhere to the safety measures put in place by the university keeping the COVID-19 pandemic in mind. All staff and students will be required to carry hand sanitizers and wear face masks at all times.

Highlights of Second Phase of Open Book Exams

Students appearing for the second phase of Open Book Exams must note the following important points about how the exam would be conducted.

  • The second phase of exams is being conducted only for the students who have not appeared or failed to submit scanned images of their answer sheet in the first phase.

  • Students will be allowed to choose between appearing for the exam in online or offline (physical) mode.

  • Offline mode students will be required to carry their own A4 size sheets on which they shall be writing the answers.

  • DU has also announced gadgets inside the exam hall, saying that the question papers may be sent to the candidate via WhatsApp or email.

  • Students will also have to arrange any stationery required to attempt the examinations.

  • The duration of the exam will be 3 hours. Students appearing for online exams will get 1 hour extra to scan and upload the answer sheet.

DU Provides Data of First Phase of DU Exams

The university has also provided the number of candidates who registered and appeared for the first phase of exams in the affidavit. It said that 80,139 students had registered for the exams out of the total 82,852. Out of these, 79,533 had logged in to the DU portal and 76,040 attempted the paper. However, only 71,103 students were able to submit their answer sheet.

A similar trend is seen in the numbers of DU SOL as well in which only 1.26 lacs students finally submitted their answer sheets out of the total 1.5 lacs who have registered for the exam.

This leaves a sizeable chunk of students who were either unable to appear or chose not to appear for the exams or were not able to upload their answer sheets. However, these students will be given another chance in the second phase of exams.
