DU's Full Scholarship Scheme for Students who've Lost Parents

The University of Delhi is planning to provide full scholarships to the students whose parents are no more or are unemployed. The university will also provide half fee waiver to the students whose earning member is deceased in order to support their finances.

The University administration has come up with few changes in the number of seats as well as the inclusion of students from a different background as well as providing financial aid to the students in need. The registrations of the students online have already begun for the undergraduate students, meanwhile, admissions to the postgraduate programmes, PGD in Cyber Security and Law as well as M.Phil courses will see the online registrations begin from June 3rd, 2019.

In a statement made by the University of Delhi, colleges under its affiliation will be providing 100% scholarship to those students who are orphans as well as to those with both the parents unemployed. DU has also stated that they will be providing 50% fee waiver to the students whose only earning member of the family has passed away so as to help them with the college tuition fees.

Sources state that the University of Delhi will also be hosting an Open Day Session where the students and their parents can visit the college of their choice and understand various admission processes of the colleges or DU. Sources also state that DU colleges will also be setting up various helpdesks during the open day sessions as well as during the counselling and admission process.

In respect to the inclusion of the new reservation seats for the students belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections, the University has announced that they will be introducing 10% seat reservation for the purpose this year and a further 10% seats will be added under the quota next academic year. The students who wish to take admission under the quota must ensure that they have the certificate of proof for the purpose.

An official from DU has also stated that they will not be deducting 2.5 marks for subjects with different nomenclature than the subjects in CBSE, which is accepted by DU, from this academic year onwards. For example, the students who have opted for Biochemistry from another state board of education but have the same curriculum of biology as in CBSE, the candidates will not be punished with 2.5 mark deduction from the total marks.

The official also stated that the implementation of the EWS quota will help the students deprived of the opportunity to be offered education. He also stated that the number of seats that will be increased will be around 6000. He also added that the students belonging to the other categories will not be affected by the decision of Delhi University.
