DU Inaugurates Wall of Heroes to Instill Patriotism Feeling Among Students
- Delhi University has inaugurated ‘The Wall of Heroes’ which depicts the portraits of warriors at the conference centre inside the institute premises under the Vidya Veerta Abhiyan campaign.

The Central Government in the month of May this year launched a campaign to inculcate patriotism and nationalism among country students. Under this campaign, the portraits of 21 Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military decoration on the walls of the universities across India. This is initiative is named as Vidya Veerta Abhiyan (Knowledge and Warrior Campaign) and to start with, it involves 100 universities of the country.
Taking steps to execute the plan, Delhi University has recently inaugurated ‘The Wall of Heroes’ which pictures the portraits of warriors inside the institute premises at the conference centre.

The head of cultural affairs of Delhi University, Dr. Shalini Baxi expressing the motive of the campaign told that this wall will prove to be a permanent fixture. Although maximum students are not on the campus due to summer break, they will get to know about this as soon as they come back. She added that the conference centre was selected since it is open and accessible to all the students and thus they may visit the place anytime they want. She is pretty sure that this will stimulate patriotism feelings among the students.
Hari Om Panwar, Poet and also the former Dean of Law faculty was invited as the chief guest. He got tears in his eyes while bringing up the curtain of the wall. On this occasion, he said that it was a great honor for him to inaugurate The Wall of Heroes. He revealed that he never felt this emotional in his 40 years as an academician and expressed that anyone can get inspired from the real heroes of the country. He hopes that the initiative will instill a sense of patriotism among the youngsters also.

Parminder Sehgal, in-charge of NCC and NSS in the university, feeling proud to be a part of the inauguration ceremony said that it is proud moment for all the people and the wall is only a small tribute to the heroes who died for the country as what they had done for us can never be returned back. He added that today’s youngsters need a lot of guidance and motivation and this place will fulfill the both the purpose.
