DU Shows Way to Prospective Women Entrepreneurs
DU's Centre for Science Education and Communication, under its Skill Enhancement Programme for Prospective Women Entrepreneurs has been generating new and innovative ideas
Under the initiative of Delhi University's Centre for Science Education and Communication, its Skill Enhancement Programme for Prospective Women Entrepreneurs has been generating new and innovative ideas.
At the inaugural session of the programme, ladies from all walks of life like students, working women and women entrepreneurs participated in the programme. They also got the rare opportunity to interact with experts and share their experiences. This helped them widen their knowledge base.

Most of these women came up with several innovative ideas. These ideas could be transformed into successful business models. Participation of women was essential as it would make them self-reliable and independent.
“It is not about seeking employment but generating employment and such types of initiatives and programmes would help the budding women entrepreneurs. They not only generate employment for other women but also make them self-reliant.” said a participating student.
The discussion revolved around several interesting topics like -
- Jobs for people of North East India
- Reviving dying indigenous art forms
- Providing career counselling to students from NE community
- Skill development of tribal women through IT education
- Help provide services to foreign tourists
- Home-safety tools for children
- E-commerce of local products
- Time saving techniques

Prof M M Chaturvedi , director of Cluster Innovative Centre (CIC) said that women are born entrepreneurs as they have the managerial ability to do things in an organised manner. What they need is a conducive environment to nurture their skills, and an adequate platform to excel in entrepreneurship.
For the first time, DU has taken such initiative and this kind of programmes are yet be included in the course curriculum. There is an urgent need to educate people about skill development and entrepreneurship. As there is tremendous scope and capacity to transform the life of women, it is also an excellent platform to exchange ideas and share experiences, said one of the coordinators of the programme.
