DU Admission 2020: Apply Under ECA Category from August 1
Delhi University will start the registration under extracurricular activities, or the (ECA) category, for DU admission 2020, from August 1 to August 31.
DU has begun the online application process 2020 for admission to the various courses on its official website (du.ac.in). DU had earlier decided to not conduct sports and ECA trials this year. However, now DU has planned to go ahead with the ECA category admissions. This issue was addressed during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Admissions and it was proposed that ECA admissions should be done on the basis of merit certificates by excluding trials. Delhi University will start the registration under extracurricular activities, or the (ECA) category, for DU admission 2020, from August 1 to August 31.
It has been decided that the performance trial marks (75) will be clubbed along with the certificate marks (25) and candidates will be assessed on the basis of the self-attested copies of certificates. Aspirants would be marked out of 100, depending on whether they have received training and for how long, whether they have participated in competitions and at which level. The decision was given the green signal by the Admission Committee in its meeting on July 18 and by the Standing Committee on July 21.
This was met by an objection from a member of the standing committee who said that there is no way to verify the credibility of the ECA certificates as they are not issued by any government-approved institutes. This is not fair to the genuine applicants and if the trials cannot take place then the university should find a way to conduct trials online. DU is expected to revisit the guidelines after getting approval from the higher authorities.

It was decided earlier that for ECA admissions, colleges will inform on the DU UG admission portal the number of seats under ECA quota (supernumerary) concerning NCC/NSS in men/women as applicable. Then admission will be done through the centralised ECA merit list which will be based on the highest marks scored in the uploaded NCC/NSS certificates and order of their preferences of colleges and courses as mentioned by the applicant according to the admission bulletin uploaded by the university.
All the candidates who are willing to take admission on the basis of ECA need to register online on the DU UG admission portal. They’ll have to register for maximum 5 courses and colleges as per their preference where they wish to take admission at. These preferences will be used in the allotment of college and course according to the university.
The candidates will also have to deposit an additional registration fee of Rs.100 for ECA category along with charges for OBC/SC/ST/General/EWS/PwBD registration. They will also have to upload self-attested copies of 5 NCC/NSS certificates and they must get minimum 4 marks in the marking of the uploaded NCC/NSS certificates to be eligible for ECA admissions. Marks will be allotted basis the applicant's performance under five different heads for NSS-working hours, regular activity, national camps, special camps and Pre-RD Camp. An applicant will be allotted marks out of 100.
