Students at Delhi University (DU) are voluntarily spending their vacations helping aspirants in the admission process. In order to help authorities prevent chaos during admissions, students at DU have stationed themselves at various colleges to help candidates in the admission process after the announcemnt of the second cut-off.

These DU volunteers are either part of the student political organisations or are working on behalf of the respective colleges’ administration. Students are taking this opportunity as a vacation activity where they will also get to interact with freshers.

Shauryaveer Singh, a student of the Campus Law Centre, North Campus, stated that various volunteers have set up help desks at both North Campus and South Campus of DU. These volunteers assist students seeking admissions in finding the location of the colleges they are applying for.

A member of the NSUI, Shauryaveer also informed that the volunteers also assist students in picking the right subject choices if they seek help.

Final Year student of Hindu College, Aman Yadav, said that the volunteers are empathetic towards the fresher students who are coming for admission. The DU volunteers stated that they faced a lot of difficulties during their fresher year and were helped by their seniors. Anam said that they also want to help the new students to settle in the new environment smoothly.

Another student who was immensely affected by his volunteering experience in DU Admissions 2017 was Mayank Aggarwal of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College. He is in the final year of his programme and has volunteered in the admission process of 2017 as well.

Mayank stated that there have been incidents where he has seen students crying as they are not carrying the necessary documents. He said that State boards release the mark sheets after the CBSE and therefore students have to apply on the basis of provisional mark sheets that are sometimes rejected during document verification.

Some students come from far-flung areas of India and are denied admission as they are not carrying their original mark sheets. They face a lot of problems as they cannot fetch their documents before the closing of the admission process.
