The University of Delhi is one of India's leading central universities. However, on the other hand, DU has a prominent number of non-permanent faculty members, up to 360. According to DUTA or the Delhi University Teacher's Association, the number is higher because 60 percent of the teaching staff is hired on an ad-hoc basis or is present as guest faculty.
Additionally, no interviews for the post of permanent teachers have been conducted since the year 2006. There are about 70 colleges in DU, and it is important that measures are taken to strengthen the quality and quantity of teachers. This will help in improving the overall higher learning education system of India.
