DU's Executive Council Send Four Undergrad Courses Back For Revision
On 21st July. four UG courses of DU was sent back by the Executive Council to their respective departments for a thorough check and revision after many professors and members of Executive Committee objected on some topics which according to them are influenced by Leftist Ideology.
Some of the professors of Delhi University raised their voice against some topics in the 4 undergraduate courses – English, Sociology, Political Science, and History claiming that the topics are influenced by the Leftist ideology. Hence, the DU Executive Council returned the syllabi of these UG courses to their respective departments. The decision of the departments will affect the syllabus of these courses.
The objections included the teaching of Maoism and Marxism, showing right-wing leaders in ‘bad light’ in a fictional story based on the riots of Gujrat, the inclusion of Muzaffarnagar riots. The showing of Hindu gods as members of the LGBT community was also highly criticized. The syllabus of the departments have to be revised and need to be approved latest by July 31. Though the English department of Delhi University has already decided to remove the contentious parts from the syllabus, the decision of the other departments is still pending.

The executive council member, Rajesh Jha exclaimed his concern about the students stating what will the students' study for this period of time as the new session has already begun and this will affect the students. Whereas, Rasal Singh, member of Academic Council and NDTF welcomed the decision. Rasal Singh also stated that the syllabi need to be reviewed by more teachers and other stakeholders.
Another Executive Committee member J.L.Gupta said that from the start we have strongly opposed the imposition of CBCS in a centralized manner from the top, i.e. UGC-MHRD, usurping the AC’s and EC’s statutory jurisdiction. According to him, it is the basic right of the teacher to frame the syllabus and the same was taken away from them. The revision of the undergraduate courses is already under the way

A committee will be formed in order to submit the final decision to the Executive Committee.
