A total number of 22 executive members of Delhi University Teachers’ Association have termed the National Education Policy (NEP) as National Exclusion Policy. The association discussed some of the inputs of NEP and felt that various recommendations in NEP are not up to the mark.

Nandita Narain, President of DUTA, expressed that the government has to withdraw the NEP and has to take up extensive discussions or debates on the policy which include all sections of Indians. She felt that the recommendations relating to Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), recruitment policies, internationalisation and commercialization are not satisfactory. The association is going to constitute a sub-committee to prepare a detailed report on the NEP document.

DUTA has also joined hands with various organisations which are questioning different inputs of National Education Policy and cited that the policy does not even mention about Subramanian Committee which has been set up to formulate the draft. They indicated that the most shocking thing about the NEP document is that it does not have any acknowledgement of authorship.

They further explained that the NEP document has indirectly laid more emphasis on the commercialisation of education and termed MOOCs as the cheap alternatives to increasing the number of public funded institutions at various levels of education. The policy did not focus on declining standards in education at higher levels and did not address the issue relating to lack of faculty and inadequate infrastructure in educational institutions across the country.
