DUTA Protests: Teachers Demand Confirmation Letter
- Protest by DU Teachers against delay in confirmation letter.
- The association called for a pen down strike.
- Public Meeting conducted demanding withdrawal of application of API.
The teachers of Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) staged a demonstration near the office of Vice Chancellor against the ‘delay’ in confirmation letters to be given to them even though the probation period of 12 months has already been completed by them.
Calling it a ‘serious violation’ of the university statutes, it has been maintained that the affected teachers have not yet been intimated even though their probation period is about to end soon.
The protests led by DUTA emphasized the Ordinance Eleven, Section 1-A of Delhi University Act mandating that probation period is for 12 months and can be extended only in exceptional circumstances by not more than 12 months, wherein the Executive Council has to decide on the extension and teachers should be informed before the expiry of eleven months after such an appointment.

A number of teachers from different departments have alleged that University has been tampering with their service conditions even after 2 years of their service.
According to DUTA, teachers are being unduly harassed and also denied their right to confirmation. While some teachers were given their confirmation letter, the teachers’ body reiterates its demand that there should be no further delay in issuing the confirmation letters and the harassment meted out to teachers should be stopped.
The association has called for a Pen Down Strike and a public meeting at the Arts Faculty Gate yesterday from 11 am to 2 pm demanding the withdrawal of the application of API.
