The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) welcomed the decision of the Union Cabinet to approve pay revision for college and university teachers. The Union Cabinet gave approval for the implementation of recommendations of seventh pay commission following which eight lakh teachers working in universities and institutes under the ambit of UGC (University Grants Commission) and centrally funded institutes will be benefitted through this move.

DUTA requested the government to approve the pay revision of non-teaching staff/ employees of colleges and universities as early as possible. It further pointed out that the pay revision for non-teaching staff would mitigate their financial hardships to some extent.

DUTA indicated that the decision of Union Cabinet to implement recommendations of seventh pay commission would be responded to only after the full communication of details of the decision. DUTA also expressed its doubt and apprehension regarding the secrecy in the decision-making.

College and university teachers are worried about the long list of pay-related irregularities or anomalies that had risen from the previous pay revision, which is yet to be resolved. The DUTA also appealed to the government to release the Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners. The government did not release the DR for the last two installments.
