The percentage of female students in higher educational institutes will play a significant role in determining the ranking of the institutions. HRD Ministry announced that the NIRF Rankings for the year 2017 will be announced on April 3, 2017. The ministry clarified that 2.5% weightage has been given to the percentage of female students on a campus. The objective of the HRD ministry is to bring greater gender parity in higher educational institutes.

Therefore, the institutes which have the higher number of girl students will be at an added advantage if they are hoping for better rankings. Last year, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore bagged the top spot in the survey.

NIRF stands for National Institutional Ranking Framework. These rankings are declared by Union Ministry of Human Resource and Development.

As a new addition, while declaring the ranking of the institutes, NIRF will also consider the feedback of employers who hired the students from various higher educational institutes. The number of patents that an institute bagged will be also one of the criterions. The NIRF has revised the parameters and criterion for ranking institutes this year.

This year, around 3,500 institutes are in the list and the criterion for the ranking includes perception, inclusion, graduation outcomes, research, teaching and learning resources.
