HRD Minister: Educational Institutions Need to Contribute to Nation's Development

At the TechEx technology exhibition held at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, the HRD Minister urged the future as well as the current researchers to take up different social issues for research. This way, it could contribute towards the nation's development.

During the inaugural ceremony of the Technology Exhibition (TechEX), which was held at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi on 4th August 2019, Ramesh Pokhriyal “Nishank”, the Union Minister of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, emphasised on one factor and that was the role of the educational institutions in the development of the New India.

Stating that the development of the other developed countries was supported by the educational institutions in those countries, the Minister further mentioned that Indian educational Institutions should make similar efforts, especially in research, to help India move forward. While addressing the students at the event, the Union Minister requested the researchers as well as the aspiring researchers to choose subjects relating to the social issues.

The event marked the presence of various officials and Government dignitaries such as the Secretary of Department of Higher Education as well as the Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology and the different Directors from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi etc. Students from various engineering colleges in Delhi that are affiliated with the All India Council of Technical Education as well as students from Kendriya Vidyalas had also attended the programme.

Under two of the many schemes introduced by the Government of India, the Uchhatar Avishkar Yojna (UAY) and the Impacting Research, Innovation and Technology (IMPRINT), students and researchers could display the products as well as the prototypes at the technology exhibition, TechEx.

In the words of the HRD Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal, TechEx is a brilliant platform for all researchers to bring forward their ideas-turned-products to a common platform where it can be introduced to the people. He further stated that the platform will encourage the researchers to work harder and improve their products, in different domains. At the exhibition, the Minister stated that a total of 50 prototypes had been introduced under the scheme of IMPRINT, meanwhile, 26 models had been displayed under the UAY scheme. He added that 146 posters had also been put up at the exhibition as well.
