Anil D Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of AICTE, informed that the National Eligibility Test (NET) for admission to engineering colleges across India has been approved for the session 2018. However, there are some states that have been opposing the idea of single entrance exam for engineering admissions.

As a result of the disagreement and need of clarity, it can be said that NET will not be introduced before the session 2019-20. The chairman also informed that the details of the exam will be presented in front of various states in order to achieve better understanding.

Sahasrabudhe also added that the exam will be advantageous for the students seeking in state-level colleges as well as those who look forward to taking admission in different IITs.

Stating the example of NEET, he added that some state governments were anxious about the outcome of the exam but it worked out in the favour of students and introduced transparency and equality in the system.
