32,000 Engineering Seats Lying Vacant in Gujarat
- 43,000 candidates have registered themselves for admission to engineering colleges against 66,000 seats offered in Gujarat.
- The growing number of engineering colleges and fewer job opportunities is one of the main reasons for seats lying vacant.
The Admissions Committee for Professional Courses in Gujarat has informed the authorities that as many as 32,000 seats are lying vacant in various engineering colleges of the state. According to the records, 43,000 candidates have registered themselves for admission to engineering colleges against 66,000 seats offered in the state.
One of the committee officials said that even last year 10,000 seats were lying vacant because only 36,000 students took admission. However, the number of candidates seeking admission to courses like pharmacy is thrice the number of seats offered. Candidates who were unable to secure a seat in medical courses took admission in Pharmacy.

The growing number of engineering colleges and fewer job opportunities is one of the prime reason for seats lying vacant in engineering college. The same issues are faced by Madhya Pradesh state engineering colleges due to which the state government decided to only offer 60,000 seats this time.

Apart from this, the admission process in the state has not started yet as Gujarat Secondary Education Board (GSEB) is yet to release the provisional merit list for GUJCET 2018. The exam was conducted on 23rd April and the results for the same were announced on 10th May. As per the notification, GUJCET 2018 merit list will be out by 8th June after the Central Board of Secondary Education will release the list of qualified candidates and their respective scores in class XII board exams.
