Exam Committee Suggests Conducting JEE Advanced through Mobile Phones

The committee formed to reform the JEE Advanced test has suggested conducting the exam through mobile phones. The suggestion was made at the recent meeting of the Joint Admission Board (JAB) and will be discussed further by the IIT Council.
JEE Advanced is the second stage of the selection process for admission in IITs. Prior to this phase of selection, students have to clear the JEE Main exam. After introducing the online mode of JEE Mains exam, officials are now planning to launch JEE Advanced in online mode to ease up the evaluation process.
The suggestion of conducting the exam through mobile phones is a step towards digitisation. The committee stated that mobiles being more readily accessible in rural communities than computers can be a good medium for conducting the exam.

A senior official stated that it is likely that a panel will be formed for the development and testing of online exam platforms. This is to ensure that all issues are resolved before the JEE Advanced exam is officially launched in online mode, the official added.
The committee also suggested the exam should be conducted in three slots, one slot for each subject. Currently, the exam is conducted in two segments and each segment contains all three subjects.

Out of the 1.3 million candidates who appeared for JEE Mains exam, less than 10% gave the test in online mode. Only two lakh of these candidates will qualify in order to appear for the JEE Advanced exam.
