Exorbitant fee for B.Sc Agriculture admission in Telangana worry students and parents

A significant fee rise for the B.Sc. in Agriculture is worrying students in Telangana. The students’ community and parents are not really happy about the fee hike in Sri Acharya Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University. According to the new fee structure of the Self-Finance Quota, a seat of BSc in Agriculture is offered at 14 lakh rupees, and a seat in BSc in Horticulture is offered at 9 lakh rupees. Since the demand for agricultural courses has been increasing for the last few years, Acharya Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University has decided to increase the fee structure for the self-finance category.  Parents from middle-class and lower middle-class families are requesting both the State Government and University Officials but no one heeded to their plea or concern.

As per the new fee structure of Self- Finance Quota, for BSC (Hons) Agriculture and Community Science the total fee for the entire courses is 14 lakh rupees. Along with the course fee, candidates must pay the University fee of 39 thousand, apart from the hostel and mess charges. All these candidates are made to pay around 10 to 11 lakhs at the time of admission which is not at all possible for the parents. Candidates who wanted to pursue BSc (Hons) in Horticulture are supposed to pay around 5 to 5.5 lakhs rupees at the time of admission. Parents who wished to help their children succeed professionally in the agricultural industry by doing this may make a small contribution to the country's economic backbone, but with the fee increase, it now appears to be a pipe dream.  

Despite the high demand for BSc agriculture and horticulture courses, charging a fee of Rs.9 lakh to Rs.14 lakh in a government university has received widespread criticism. Concerning the seats awarded to students based on their MSET scores... There is a fee of Rs. 39 thousand for B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture and Community Science courses. The fee for BVSC (Animal Husbandry) is Rs. 55,800. The fee for the BFSC course is Rs. 43,290, and the fee for the B.Sc Horticulture seat is Rs. 47,090. However, there is criticism that lakhs upon lakhs of rupees are being collected for the self-financing quota.

Last time also, the parents’ community along with students complained to the Central and State Governments. The State Council of Higher Education has been given instructions by the Central Department of Higher Education to look into the situation and take appropriate measures. However, to date, there has been no investigation. The fees would be assessed in the same way for this academic year as well, according to the notification released by Acharya Jayashankar University.
