After analysing the issues with the Delhi University LLB entrance exam and other law entrance exams, experts suggest that there should be a single LLB Entrance Exam on the lines of JEE Mains and NEET. DU LLB Entrance Exam was conducted on July 2, 2017.

Experts feel that proper guidelines must be set for organising law entrance exams along with a system to address queries and complaints regarding erroneous questions as well as grace marks.

There have been complaints that the DU LLB Entrance Test 2017 comprised irrelevant questions and questions that the aspirants were not capable of answering. One of the irrelevant questions asked was ‘the most common password in 2016’ across the world.

The exam also comprises complex legal questions that only a student studying law could have answered. Many of the law aspirants were unable to answer such complex legal questions.

Various experts believe that the LL.B. Entrance Exams need a revamp and that there is a need to introduce a common entrance exam for LLB programmes. It has also been suggested that the exam should be conducted by a separate examination organising body, much like the ETs in the United States.

Although the establishment of a National Testing Agency (NTA), on the lines of ETS, was included in the budget presented by the Finance Ministry in 2017, a common entrance exam for law courses has not been introduced yet.

Single entrance exam for LLB programmes will be beneficial for students as they will have to appear for a single exam to secure seats in Law colleges. Also, a uniform exam pattern and syllabus will help the aspirants to prepare smoothly.
